Michigan medical license renewal
Michigan MD and DO licenses renew every three years through MiPLUS, together with the separate Michigan controlled substance license. You can keep practicing for 60 days after expiration while you renew late. Here is the timeline and the steps, from LARA's own guides and fee table.
At a glance
| Item | Michigan (MD and DO) |
|---|---|
| Renews | Every 3 years (MD and DO); the controlled substance license renews in the same application |
| Renewal window opens | No sooner than 90 days before the expiration date. |
| Renewal fee | About $314 for the 3-year license (LARA lists $314.40), plus $248.10 for the controlled substance license if you hold one. A late fee applies after expiration. |
| Where to renew | MiPLUS |
| CME | 150 hours every 3 years: at least 75 Category 1 for MD, at least 60 Category 1 for DO. Full Michigan CME rules |
| CME reporting | Submitting the renewal certifies compliance. LARA audits at random through CE Broker; keep records 4 years. |
| Late or expired | You may renew within 60 days after expiration with the late fee and may continue to practice during those 60 days. After that the license is void; relicensure within 3 years requires an application plus fees and CE. |

- A separate Michigan controlled substance license, renewed in the same MiPLUS application.
Licenses from the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact
LARA says that if Michigan is not your state of principal license, you renew your Michigan Compact license through the IMLC Commission's site under Renewals, and the requirements are sent to you.
