There are four realistic ways to keep multiple state medical licenses, CME hours and credentials current: the state's own system (CE Broker), a dedicated multi-state tracker (CME Agent, Interstate Medicine Pro), a tracker bundled with credentialing services (Mocingbird), or a spreadsheet. Which one is right depends almost entirely on how many licenses you hold and whether you want someone else to file the paperwork. What each option is actually for
CE Broker — the board's own system, free for one state
CE Broker is not a competitor so much as infrastructure. In the states where a medical board has adopted it, credits reported through CE Broker land directly in the board's record and the board's audit is run against it. If you hold one license in one of those states, the free tier satisfies the mandate and there is no reason to pay anyone, including us. Its limits show up when you hold several licenses: the multi-state tier is $89.99 a year, it only sees what flows through its own reporting pipeline, and it does not track the DEA registration, life-support cards or malpractice coverage a credentialing office will ask for. CME Agent — the closest direct competitor, at $348 a year
CME Agent does the same core job as Interstate Medicine Pro: multi-state CME tracking with an AI course optimizer and OCR certificate capture. It has been shipping longer, its enterprise tier is more mature, and it holds SOC 2 Type II certification, which some hospital and staffing-agency procurement teams require. Mocingbird — tracking plus credentialing and renewal processing, $199 a year
Mocingbird is a broader product. Alongside CME tracking it handles credentialing and will process your license renewals for you. That is real labor: if what you want is for the paperwork to leave your desk entirely, Mocingbird is the better buy and we would rather say so. A spreadsheet — free, and fine until it isn't
If you hold one or two licenses with no recurring topic mandates, a spreadsheet with a column per state and calendar reminders on each renewal date is a legitimate answer. It fails in predictable ways: it does not know when a board changes a rule mid-cycle, it cannot tell you which of your existing certificates already satisfies a new mandate, and it is only as current as the last time you opened it. The seven states that reject a generic course for their controlled-substance mandate (Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia) are where spreadsheets most often go wrong.

Which states require CE Broker for physicians?
Six state medical boards use CE Broker as the mandatory system of record for physician CME: Florida, Louisiana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas (Texas mandatory from September 1, 2026). Several other states use it for other professions or on an optional basis. Each state's page on this site lists its tracking system.
Does a medical license tracker report my CME to the board?
Only CE Broker does, because it is the board's own system in its states. Interstate Medicine Pro formats a per-state export and audit packet; you or an authorized assistant submit it. Mocingbird will process renewals as a service. CME Agent's board-reporting behavior is not documented publicly.
Can a tracker also hold my DEA registration, BLS card and malpractice certificate?
