Clinicians and credentialing staff use our pages to decide what to do before a renewal. So every rule we publish has to trace back to the board that wrote it, carry the date we checked it, and say plainly when we could not confirm something. This page explains how we do that.
What we publish
- Continuing education and license renewal rules for physicians (MD and DO), nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse anesthetists (CRNA) and anesthesiologist assistants (CAA), in all 50 states and DC.
- Guides to DEA and state controlled-substance registration, the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, credentialing and recredentialing.
- Comparisons of license, CME and credentialing tools, including our own.
Where each fact comes from
- The board's own text comes first. Each state entry is taken from that board's rules, statutes or official pages, and the page links or cites them.
- Summaries help us find a rule, never confirm it. We use federation and association summaries to know where to look, then confirm against the primary source.
- Every entry is dated. State pages show when each profession's rules were last checked.
- Unconfirmed means labeled. If we cannot pin a detail to the board's own text, the entry says Confirm with the board instead of guessing.
How we keep it current
We re-check entries on a schedule and whenever a board, legislature or rulemaking announces a change. When a rule changes we update the page, change its date and record the change. Software, including AI tools, helps us search and compare rule text; nothing is published until it matches the board's own wording.
Who writes and reviews
Our team writes and reviews every page. It is led by a practicing physician licensed in multiple states, who has renewed licenses, DEA registrations and hospital credentials across state lines.
How we write comparisons
- We make the Interstate Medicine Ledger and the Interstate Medicine Roster, and every comparison page says so.
- Competitor facts come from each vendor's own website, with the date we read it. “Not advertised” means we did not find it, not that the product cannot do it.
- We say where another product fits better, for example when a board requires its own reporting system or when an organization needs primary-source verification.
- No vendor pays to be included or ranked. Vendors can send corrections and we will fix confirmed errors.
Affiliation
Interstate Medicine is not affiliated with the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission, the Federation of State Medical Boards, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, any certifying body such as NCCPA, NBCRNA, AANPCB or ANCC, CE Broker, or any state licensing board.
Not legal advice
Our pages are educational. Rules change mid-cycle and exceptions apply to individual situations. Confirm with your board before you rely on any entry for a renewal.
Report an error
If something is wrong or out of date, email hello@interstatemedicine.com with the page and what changed. We review every report, and when we confirm an error we correct the page and update its date.
