Best credentialing software for small practices and agencies (2026)

Ten products and a spreadsheet, compared on what a practice manager or agency credentialing lead actually decides on. We make one of them, the Roster, and say where others fit better. Every competitor fact is from the vendor's own site, read October 19 and 20, 2026.

Three questions decide it

  1. Do you need primary-source verification or payer enrollment, or do you need clinicians current and ready for each facility? Verification and enrollment point to a credentialing platform or service; staying ready points to a tracker.
  2. How many states do your clinicians practice in? Across states, DEA registrations, state controlled-substance registrations and CME rules multiply, and a generic expiration tracker misses them.
  3. Who keeps the record current? Your coordinators, or the clinicians themselves. The second means less chasing.

Which fits which situation

Common questions

What is the best credentialing software for a small practice?

It depends on whether you need verification and payer enrollment or only need to stay current. To keep a small group’s licenses, DEA registrations and certifications current, a tracker such as the Interstate Medicine Roster or Credentialing Check fits. To enroll with health plans, look at Credentik or a credentialing service.

Which credentialing software is best for locum tenens agencies?

For agencies tracking licenses and certifications at low cost, Credentialing Check, which is built for staffing agencies. For clinicians licensed across many states, where DEA and controlled-substance registrations and CME rules matter, the Interstate Medicine Roster.

How much does credentialing software cost?

Published prices run from free tiers to about $1,500 a month for flat-tier products, or $10 per clinician a month for the Roster. Several larger vendors publish no price. See credentialing software pricing.

Do these tools perform primary-source verification?

Some do, as software or as a service: Rivon, Modio, MedTrainer and CredentialMyDoc describe verification; Credentik prefills a checklist. Credentialing Check and the Interstate Medicine Roster do not.
